Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information AnyRecalls ("we", "us") collects when you use https://www.anyrecalls.com, why, and what choices you have.

This is a plain-English policy written by the site's operator. It is not legal advice and hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer.

Who we are

AnyRecalls is operated by Donny West, reachable at hello@anyrecalls.com.

What we collect

We don't ask you to create an account, and we don't collect your name, email address or payment details.

Searches. What you type in the search box is sent to our server to find matching vehicles, and appears in the page address and our hosting provider's standard logs. We don't store searches anywhere else or link them to you.

VINs. If you search by VIN, it's sent to our server and to NHTSA's public vPIC service to decode the make, model and year, and it appears in the page address and server logs. A VIN identifies a vehicle, not a person, and we don't collect anything that would connect it to you. We don't send it anywhere else. VIN result pages are kept out of search engines.

Server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical data with each request: IP address, browser type, referring page, the page requested and a timestamp. These logs are used for security and debugging and are kept for a limited period.

Cookies and local storage

  • Theme preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is stored in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
  • Analytics and advertising, described below.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site still works without them.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used and how visitors arrive. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data, including approximate location derived from your IP address. We only see aggregated reports and have no access to information that identifies you personally.

You can opt out across all sites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies are not set until you choose to allow them. The consent message is provided by Google's certified consent management platform, and you can change your choice at any time from the link it provides. Until you choose, analytics runs without cookies and only non-personalised or limited ads are shown.

Your rights

EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR). We rely on your consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and on legitimate interests for basic server logging needed to keep the site secure. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we don't hold information that identifies you, most requests are best directed to Google as the controller of analytics and advertising data. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing". We don't sell personal information. Interest-based advertising through Google AdSense may count as "sharing" under the CPRA. You can opt out using the links in the advertising section above. We won't treat you differently for exercising these rights.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Third-party links

We link to other websites, including NHTSA, manufacturers' recall lookups and, where labelled, affiliate partners. An affiliate link may let the partner know you arrived from this site, so we can be credited for a purchase. Once you follow a link you are on their site and subject to their privacy policy, not ours.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
