Summary
Gillig is recalling model year 2008-2009 lowfloor buses equipped with q'straint max mobility device remote release belts used on american insight transverse flip up seats with build dates between October 2008 and October 2009. These devices are used to restrain passengers using mobility aid products. The mobility device restraint belts may not lock as designed, and may fail to properly restrain the passenger and the mobility device.
Consequence
If the belt does not lock and the mobility device is not properly restrained, there is an increased risk of injury to the passenger in the event of a crash.
Remedy
Gillig is working with american seating and will replace the q'straint max remote release belts with q'straint qrt deluxe remote release belts free of charge. American seating is handling the remedy for this campaign. Please see american seating's defect report 09E-065. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before January 29, 2010. Owners may contact american seating's service manager sherry aellen at 1-616-732-6484 and gillig at 1-800-735-1500.

Vehicles covered

As listed by NHTSA. A recall usually covers only some vehicles of each model and year, often a production date range.

Has your Gillig been repaired?

Recalls here come from NHTSA’s records for the model and year. Not every vehicle of a model is included in every recall, and this site can’t see whether a repair has been done. Only a VIN lookup can tell you that.

NHTSA’s VIN search doesn’t show recalls that were already repaired, recalls more than 15 years old, or some small manufacturers’ recalls. A Gillig dealer can also check your VIN. Recall repairs are free.
