Splined shaft in fixed steering column is too short, causing the hub of the steering wheel to not fully seat in the taper.

Summary: Splined shaft in fixed steering column is too short, causing the hub of the steering wheel to not fully seat in the taper.
Consequence: If the retaining nut is improperly torqued, steering wheel can come loose and steering control would be lost and could result in an accident.
Remedy: Replace steering column.
