- Summary
- Vehicle description: travel and folding trailers equipped with dexter axles. The wheel bearings used in some of these axles have a metallurgical defect causing early failure.
- Consequence
- A wheel bearing failure could result in the loss of the wheel end from the axle increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy
- Dexter axle is conducting the notification and remedy for this recall. Dealers will inspect the axles and replace the wheel bearings if necessary.
- Notes
- Owner notification began during November 1997. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact dexter axle at 1-800-400-2164.ALSO contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.
