Summary: Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The coupling that connects the steering column shaft to the intermediate steering shaft is cracked. This could allow the steering shafts to separate.
Consequence: If this were to occur while the vehicle was in motion, a loss of steering control could occur increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the steering shaft coupling.
Notes: Owner notification began December 21, 1998.OWNERS who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020.ALSO contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).
