Summary: Vehicle description: van trailers. These trailers do not comply with requirements of FMVSS no. 223, "rear impact guards." the rear impact guards should be reinforced to improve their performance in collisions.
Consequence: In the event of a crash, the rear impact guards may not properly protect the vehicle.
Remedy: Owners will be provided with a free reinforcement kit and installation instructions.
Notes: Owner notification began October 29, 1999.OWNERS who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact hpa monon at 1-800-231-6413.ALSO contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).
